Trending | Banana Leaf and Palm Print

I'm admittedly a pattern girl. Give me a pile of fabric with complimentary (yet contrasting) patterns, I'm smitten. But as patterns, prints and trends come and go, there are a few that have continually stood the test of time, and one of those happen to be the ever lovely palm leaf (or banana leaf) print. It's one of those elements that can morph itself into any design inspiration- from natural, to glam (Hollywood Regency, anyone?), to boho- this leafy maven has us covered.  Laurel and Wolf, the iconic online interior design firm, inspired me to share my thoughts on how to introduce the print into whatever you happen to be styling.

Interiors + Living Space

I tend to lean toward the philosophy of grounding with neutrals and adding patterns, color, or unexpected elements in smaller doses (or in specified areas) for a beautifully layered effect.

Each of these spaces have mostly white, tan, gold and black accents, layered with the leafy pattern.

However, the print is also amazing at grounding a busier space, too, like this crazy adorable nursery.

Weddings + Parties

Using the palm leaf as part of your wedding design and/or party decor is less about becoming tropical and more about adding a fresh + modern accent to your event. And while the leaf definitely lives in harmony with a Hawaiian vibe, it can also be super stylish with even the most romantic or playful design.

I love turning traditional things into unexpected surprises, like penning a menu on a large palm leaf (or insert any object de nature, here), and a wedding lounge would be so sophisticated and on point with a pairing of graphic patterns, complimentary colors, and the palm print.

And of course, for the more fun-loving social parties, this print is perfect on decorations or as a live centerpiece to your table.

All in all, this print is one of those you just can't go wrong with. All of this inspiration has me rethinking our outdoor lounge at home, too- just might need to pick up some of these banana leaf pillows for a little touch of sophisticated nature to our backyard. Would love to know- what are your favorite inspirations or ways to use the print?

Favorite Fall Wedding Ideas

If I had to choose one favorite wedding season, it would be fall. It might have something to do with the crisp cool temperatures, aromas (pumpkin spice anyone??), or my slight obsession with textures (and the pairing of them):

Pillows: West Elm | Stool: World Market | Pink Stone Coasters: West Elm | Hammered Metal Decanter: Bed Bath and Beyond | Pretty Macaroons: L'extravagance | Fall Wedding Centerpiece: Jacin Fitzgerald

Colors: My go-to colors that are inspiring me right now are jewel tones with a touch of neutral + light pink. I think it keeps it ethereal while still adding the right amount of bold elements.

Textures: Fall is your ticket to using all sorts of textures and patterns without anything looking or feeling too busy. Along with the more expected (warm) textiles like fur, I love the idea of incorporating other elements like stone or crystal to mix it up and keep it interesting.

Gold: Need I say more? Gold goes with everything. Use it.

Comfort Food: The fastest way to your guests' hearts is through their tummies. Take advantage of the cooler weather and serve both sweet and savory comfort food. Now is the time to get a little decadent and experiment with a menu that touches all of their taste buds. {And hot toddies are never a bad idea either}

Flowers + Foliage: Whimsical, natural, and textural. This amazing centerpiece by my friend Jacin Fitzgerald says it all.

Beaded Wrap: Bhldn | Peaked Lapel Tuxedo: The Black Tux | Gold + Pearl Cufflinks: The Black Tux | Rockstud Ivory Pumps: Valentino

A fall wedding is also the opportunity to get jazzy with your look for the day. Statement pieces and bold accessories are such a beautiful addition.

For her: Boleros and caplets are all great additions (both for style and comfort), but how about this stunning beaded wrap? And imagine, some killer shoes and a classic, ethereal gown.

For Him: Who can go wrong with a black tux? This classic look is both dramatic and stunning at the same time. While suits became the norm of summer weddings, I'm looking forward to seeing more of this iconic look this fall season. Pair it with some eye-catching cuff links and I'd say this couple is camera-ready. I recently came across The Black Tux, an online tuxedo rental company, and was so excited to see quality, well-fitted tux, suit, and accessory rentals available to men wherever they're located. If you haven't discovered it yet, take a peek- you'll be glad you did!

What are your current favorite trends or ideas for fall weddings?

Brandi

Inspired Party | A Birthday Celebration

With spring comes sunshine, warmer weather, brighter colors, and around here, birthdays (including yours truly!) So of course I have party planning on the mind. I pulled together some inspiration for my dream birthday celebration, check it out!

1. Vintage bottles of any sort are a unique statement piece, and I love the idea of painting them and filling them with an assortment of flowers, if you know me it's too hard to pick just one! This is perfect, and a totally doable project!

2. Of course chevron print, and obviously gold everywhere! Gorgeous gilded table runner, turning a simple birthday get together, into a golden celebration! (I wouldn't mind a pretty present wrapped in this paper!)

3. A little noise never hurt anyone, and how cute are these? I would have to have these gold polka dot noise blowers, and I think it's safe to say, the colors are some of my favorites!

4. Over sized balloons with ribbon, silver and more gold? I'm all about it.

5. My favorite drink, a greyhound, better yet? A rosemary greyhound. Looks yummy!

6. It wouldn't be a party without the party shoes. These polka dot Keds for Kate Spade just screamed CELEBRATION! And did I mention... gold?

Six easy finds to help pull together a swanky event? I'm officially inspired for the entire season by these golden designs, mix and match patterns, and bright color palettes. It's fun and festive! Enjoy!

Happy day,

Beauty Post | Holiday Party

Here at Soiree, we are getting super antsy for our upcoming Holiday Open House Event this Friday. Check it out, we will be pulling out all the glitz and glam (and a little champagne), and we can't wait to unveil our new beauty concierge service. We hope you will join us!

invitation design by Paperie + Pen

As we prepare, I've been honing in on all my favorite beauty tricks to go with my dress and heels. What am I loving this season? Lipstick! Here's one of the many "how to's" I stumbled upon.

How does that saying go? "Life's short, buy the lipstick." I'll definitely be taking this advice and trying out some different colors just in time for our little party!

Enjoy!

Table Faves | Thanksgiving II

Here are some of my favorite ideas for this years Thanksgiving table scape! My ideal setting is casual and simple yet stunning. Spending time with my family is what I am thankful for and what better way to show your appreciation than to host a beautiful holiday event that will create everlasting memories and will bring joy to those you love!
Happy Holidays!

Table Faves | Thanksgiving

It's about time to get planning that Thanksgiving dinner, however you choose to celebrate, I'd have to say decorating is one of the best parts! Here are a few of my favorite items for the table this year.

1. Rosemary Wreath Place Cards | I love this take on a simple place card by "spicing" it up a bit.

2. Golden Harvest Candle | Because everyone needs a little gold fruit on their table. Festive huh?

3. Wheat Stalks | I'm loving the look of natural wheat as a centerpiece this season.

4. Table Runner | Subtle, great color choices, and I love all the flatware silhouettes. How fun is this?

5. Candle Holders | Simple yet bold, and I'm loving the wood and glass combination.

What will your table look like on this fine holiday?

Cheers!

Lifestyle | Halloween Hostess

With this ghoulish holiday fast approaching there has been much planning involved with the Halloween festivities. My family's annual pumpkin carving contest is being hosted at my house this year. I find myself looking for easy ideas that I can fit into my busy schedule that will make this fun tradition memorable. In my search, I came across some crafty ideas for you that may help in planning your Halloween Holiday Party!

1. These cookies are super cute and, not to mention, a super easy treat for your guests! Witch Hat Cookies
2. My sister's favorite Halloween candies are witch's teeth, aka candy corn. What a cool trick for an old treat!:) Candy Corn Drink
3. Along with your lit Jack-O-Lanterns, you can stick this fun idea out on your stoop to add to the glowing ambiance! Glitter Glow Lights
4. Every year we struggle with what to give the lucky winner of the carving contest. This cute idea is quick, easy, and could be for the boys or the girls! Halloween Gift Mug

Happy Party Planning!

Happy Weekend

Loving this weekend's weather forecast, as well as this Cinco De Mayo fete dreamed up by none other than Matthew Robbins. Such a great twist on the traditional theme and colors of the Mexican holiday. In honor of the festivities, we'll be hanging outside sipping something cold and frosty...maybe granitas (I'm actually not big on margaritas)? Some table side guacamole is in order too. What are your plans for the weekend?

Xo,

Sunday Soiree | The Crostini

With the holiday season upon us it's easy to keep the festivities rolling. Between ugly sweater parties, cookie swaps and after work cocktails it can feel like everyday is an indulgence. I find myself leaning towards lighter cooking at home in an attempt to keep a little balance. I am especially loving all these crostini recipes, they are the perfect mix of healthy and light without sacrificing taste and flavor.

Recipe Links: Parmesan Brussels Sprouts, Sweet Potato and Feta, Kale and White Bean

Perfect as appetizers at your next holiday gathering or just a light Sunday dinner. So please, pour yourself a glass of wine and savor some of these crunchy bites....'tis the season after all!

Sunday Soiree | 2 Must Have Books For The Newlywed, Stylish Hostess, and Foodie

Good morning lovelies! Are you doing what I often do...sitting in my pajamas, coffee cup in hand, cyber shopping? If you're looking for last-minute Christmas ideas (just over 2 weeks until the big day!) for a foodie, newlywed, or someone who loves to entertain, take a look at these two books. Buy both or choose one that would fit your stylish recipient best; both have rave reviews and are sure to please the palate.

#1: Bite By Bite: 100 Stylish Little Plates You Can Make For Any Party, by Peter Callahan

Caterer to the stars Peter Callahan is known for his stylish parties, raving weddings and more, and now he has brought his culinary creations he's famous for to the rest of the world through this must-have book.

#2: Mrs. Lilien's Cocktail Swatchbook

Have you discovered the quirky blog known as Mrs. Lilien? If you haven't, as soon as you order this book you must go read her online compilation of pure style. The equally colorful swatchbook (in all it's fan-out convenience) was launched this year in May, and I haven't heard the end of it since. In fact, I think I may be purchasing one of these for myself too- use it as a hostess gift, stocking stuffer, or a little treat for yourself to wow your guests at the next get together.

So there you have it, two great ideas for the entertainer in your life. Have a fabulous Sunday!

Xo,

Weekend Notes

What are your plans this holiday weekend? It's going to be a frosty one in Boise, so we'll probably cozy up with some Christmas movies, popcorn, and a fluffy blanket at least one of the nights. The last of our decorating happens this weekend too- Hubs is hanging the lights on the house and then we're officially done and ready to go. Whatever you're planning hope you enjoy the weekend, and maybe take some time out for some hot cocoa like this couple did during their winter engagement session. Happy weekend!

Some other links you may have missed from the week:

- I rolled out my 2012 holiday wish list, and realized it would be quite fitting for others like myself (ala simple sophisticate). If you are looking for gift ideas, take a peek.

- I also started a personal mission.

- Stephanie had a soup party and I think it's a fabulous twist on a typical holiday party too. Add in some holiday mixers and voila- you've got a great get together.

And from around the web:

- Pantone officially announced the 2013 color of the year, the green goddess of colors, Emerald. Perfect for the holiday season, and perfect for me- stay tuned next week for some of my thoughts on the gorgeous hue.

- Loved this post from Thinksplendid.com...Think Jackie O, Ramona and Beezus, and the concept of how everything comes full circle.

- And finally some of my favorite holiday gift guides published so far:

* This Is Glamorous
* Note To Self, for the host and holiday decor
* Matchbook Mag, for the person who loves all things sparkle
* Greenweddingshoes.com, for the newlyweds

Sunday Soiree | Soup Party

Last Sunday my roommates and I threw a Sunday Soiree. A Sunday Soup Soiree that is! We invited people over for an early evening dinner and told guests to bring a bowl. We woke up leisurely on Sunday, got the coffee going and started to prep our soups. We chose three different kinds and made sure to have a vegetarian one. By 4:00 or so our soups were simmering in crock pots, we went for a stroll around the neighborhood looking for fall foliage for our tablescape, and came home to get ready for the party. We enjoyed the night just as much as our guests and got to mingle, sip wine, and relax while everyone dished up their bowls and munched on bread and roasted nuts. I highly recommend throwing a soup party yourself; It gets all your friends in one place for a nice night of visiting, and clean up is quite easy....run the dishwasher and send people on their merry way clean bowl in hand.
Happy Sunday Soiree-ing!

Weekend Notes | Favorite Party Roundups

Happy Friday! This weekend is Kiddo #1's birthday party- can't believe he will be four years old next week! On Sunday we'll be hosting a western-themed get up fit for the roughest of cowboys. In planning the party, I ran across some of the prettiest kiddie parties- most with designs that can be easily used in bridal showers, engagement parties, and the like. So to kick off this weekend, I'm sharing some of these parties, including one from Martha Stewart Weddings' Darcy Miller.

First up, though: don't forget to take a peek at our promo video we launched yesterday, and leave a comment to enter for a $25 Starbucks gift card. It's a great way to kick off the holiday season with a frothy cup of love and it doesn't hurt to indulge your coffee habit either. Winner will be announced today at 5p MST so don't miss out!

Now for three amazing parties to send you into your weekend:

We loved this baby shower for boy and girl twins. Parisian feel, glammy chairs, pretty palette:

This first birthday party is as sweet and sophisticated as it gets. The invitations alone are stunning.

And finally, the ever talented Darcy Miller and her Daisy-themed party, planned for her daughter Daisy:

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

The Revamped Costume Party

I stumbled across this beautiful table and party theme while perusing the lovely blog Camille Styles
It's quirky and perfectly fun for the holiday season. Every year there's the traditional Halloween parties with full costumes, ghost and goblin decor, and finger food (really, cookies that look like chopped off fingers!) While those are always fun I thought this was a different yet still festive way to celebrate. Pick a theme, I'm loving this one inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" play it up with fun details like this adorable bird perch, and have your friends dress in costume to fit the theme. The rest of the images can be found here. Those vintage outfits, little bird cookies, caramel apples...looks like it made for quite the soiree! Now it has me wanting to plan one of my own. So instead of sitting around waiting for those trick or treaters to knock on your door, get your friends together and get festive!

We are starting out another busy week with the shades of this adorable birthday party- a Pantone party featured over at dessert guru Amy Atlas. It's a perfect mix of color for the youngsters, but still sophisticated. We loved it!

Weekend Links + Sangria Love

Happy Memorial Day Friday! Hope the long weekend has some plans in store for you...maybe a BBQ, bike rides, or, as a few of our brides are doing- coming to Idaho for site visits and meetings? This weekend happens to be the birthday of Yours Truly, so we'll be praying for warm weather as a backyard fete has been planned with some of my favorite foods- cue the churros, pulled beef tacos, pico de gallo, and some homemade white wine sangria (and I've included the recipe for you below- we had a tasting party last weekend to perfect it!). Here's to a fabulously relaxing weekend with your family- if you're lazing around the house, here are some links we loved from the week. Happy weekend!

-Dessert bars are becoming all the rage, and we especially loved this take on a S'mores bar from Outstanding Occasions.

-These DIY silhouette place cards are just fantastic.

-Gorgeous summer hair, with a tutorial. How beautiful would this be for a bride?

-I've been loving all of the Career posts over at The Everygirl. From Abby Larsen (a la Style Me Pretty) to miss Mindy Weiss (party planner extraordinaire) and more, these interviews have been incredibly insightful. Plus, if you are one of those people that can't help looking into other people's windows when the curtains are open (not in a creepy way, of course), you'll love seeing a little snippet into each of their offices, homes, and lives.

As long as you're on The Everygirl website, go ahead and check out two completely different styles of wedding tables (one of which is the photo above), here and here.

The best white-wine Sangria recipe you'll find:

(note, as adapted from this recipe. We did eliminate some things and added a few others)

- 1 bottle of white wine of choice- depending on how sweet you like your Sangria (Riesling, Albarino, Chablis, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc)- we used a Pinot Gris.
- 2-3 Splenda packets (note: we eliminated the 2/3 cup of sugar because I don't do sugar)
- 2oz Bacardi Rum (optional- we substituted this instead of Brandy)
- 3 Oranges, sliced
- 1 Lemon, sliced
- 1 Lime, sliced
- Handful of strawberries, sliced
- 1/2 liter ginger ale or club soda (we used club soda, although ginger ale would make it sweeter)

Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the orange, lemon and lime into the wine, add rum if desired. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sugar substitute. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.
If you'd like to serve right away, use chilled white wine and serve over lots of ice.

We also made up a sweeter batch with a Rose wine- it was delicious with several handfuls of strawberries, oranges, and the lime.

Let me know if you'll be having a virtual cocktail with me on Sunday- Enjoy!

~Xo,

Brandi
